"Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit..." Ephesians 6: 16
"The flesh profits nothing. But my words are Spirit, and they are life."
"But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man noweth the things of a man, save the spirt of man which is in him? Even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God."
"The letter kills, but the Spirit gives life."
It is intruiging to me that the word of God is called the sword of the Spirit. Not just the sword of the Lord, but the sword of the Spirit. I think that it is possible to say the Spirit's sword. The word of God is a sword, but not just any sword, or anyone's sword; it is the Spirit's sword. Under the power of the Spirit, the sword is quick, powerful; it knows exactly where to cut, and how deep to go. A soldier can aim his sword for any part of the body, depending upon his ultimate goal (which is usually death.) Likewise, only the Spirit of God knows exactly where to aim to accomplish his purpose. His sword is used to bring life, not death. His sword is a precision sword, vibrating with power that quickens the human spirit, cuts away the old dead things, and raises us to new life. The flesh is powerless. Even when the flesh picks up the sword, it becomes a heavy thing that brings death to us and to others. We must always remember that God is seeking those who will worship in Spirit and in Truth. Truth apart from the quickening, powerful Spirit of God will only serve to bring a sense of condemnation. (2 Corinthians 3). We must remember, it is the sword of the Spirit, the Spirit's sword.
